Traditional Dutch Recipes are very easy to prepare and do not contain many ingredients.
Every Dutchman likes snert – a very dense pea soup, or hutspot – food made in a single pot of potatoes, vegetables and meat – most often beef.
On the other hand, a more important role than meat is played by fish and vegetables. It is a typical Nordic cuisine, there is not a great diversity of dishes. The simplicity of this cuisine has its roots in the early twentieth century, when the so-called Huishoudschool (home schools) were organized in the Netherlands, in which girls knew the secrets of the household. The dishes prepared in such schools were greatly simplified and they are now the basis of this cuisine.
